Dear Carlton Supporters!

Dear Carlton FC Supporters

On Sunday afternoon at the MCG, Carlton came out to battle Melbourne in what most commentators and supporters stated would be a whitewash. Carlton would get pummeled by a rising football club and a club that is seen to be a rank outsider for a spot in the top 8.

For the first quarter, it seemed that this was the way it was going to happen.  By the second quarter, things took a turn and Carlton came out just a little bit stronger and Melbourne made just a little bit more mistakes.  Players that were once on the wrong side of supporters suddenly turned and were the shining lights in the match.

Matthew Wright, who I must admit was for me, the player that needed to improve the most, kicked 3 goals, had 21 disposals. Marc Murphy, Patrick Cripps, Sam Docherty, Bryce Gibbs, Ed Curnow were players who were our top players.  We saw a much criticized Dale Thomas take a spectacular specie and seal it with a goal.

The game was in our grasp, but unfortunately as Bolts has stated, we let it slip past us in the fourth quarter due to silly errors by both experienced and inexperienced players.  But what was surprising was the vitriol by supporters after the game.  Not all, but quite a lot, and I don’t understand why.

I know there are some supporters who believe that they know better, that they know the game better and understand it better.  I know that there are supporters who believe that their views are the ones that matter and have an insight to the club and the game that we mere mortals don’t.

I can understand the frustration that we supporters feel at a game that slipped away from us in the last quarter, but unless you are so blinded by your own negativity, you cannot see the positives in that game, and there were.

It is the second game for a team that was deemed to be a surety of getting another wooden spoon, we are not.  The club has been down in the slumps for quite some time and for the first time, we are starting to see a light at the end of a tunnel that was clouded by a disjointed club.  For the first time in a while we are seeing a more united front, on all fronts and for this to achieve success, it will take time.

We cannot keep bagging, criticizing and write the vitriol that has been written a club that we love.  We can voice our disappointment, our frustration that I am sure the players and coaches feel.  We must, as supporters, support through what will be this year a roller-coaster of a season that will at the start of 2018 be one that will see the team ride a much smoother one.

We all knew going into season 2017 that it would be one of growth, of disappointment and hopefully elation. The first two rounds have proven this, so why are some so surprised?  We are playing better than last year.  There is more to hope for than last year.

Enough with the vitriol bordering on hatred. Support, be frustrated, be disappointed, but above all, support!
